Notes on the MAYAN 13 MOON CALENDAR of NATURAL TIME

Notes on the MAYAN 13 MOON CALENDAR of NATURAL TIME

The 13 Moon Calendar is composed of a solar calendar of 365 days, called the Haab, combined with a 260 day calendar called the Tzolkin. This Tzolkin is based on Dr Jose Arguelles life’s work, and is distinct from the traditional Tzolkinas taught and followed by the Quiche Maya of Guatemala. The source is the ancient Mayan culture of Yucatan which was very advanced in its knowledge of the time cycles; they knew things that modern technology has only just discovered, seemingly being able to view the solar system from above. The calendar they designed remains the most accurate in the world - not once has it needed to be adjusted, unlike the present Gregorian Calendar which is not only inaccurate, it is arbitrary and irregular, lacking any correspondence to any cycles of nature. The 12 month calendar hides the reality of the 13 full moons in the solar year, and has distorted and disconnected people’s consciousness and understanding of the natural world to such an extent that the number 13 is now surrounded by superstition and taboo, permeated with cultural antiquities like the social anxiety around ‘Friday the Thirteenth’. Humans once had an entirely different relationship to the number 13, actually revering it as the key to time itself. Thirteen is the Mayan galactic prime number, the force of the universal movement of creation; together with the number 20 it is the base of the Tzolkin Calendar. Following such calendars allows you to re-synchronising yourself with natural time, as humans have done since before we were human.

All ancient peoples around the world observed the 13 times that the moon orbits the Earth in the solar year, which in turn synchronised with women’s menstruations, and most cultures logically began their year from the shortest day, ie the winter solstice. As a marker for the commencement of the New Year, the Mayans used the one day of the year that the Sun and Sirius rises on the horizon at exactly the same time and exactly the same place – July 26; at that unique moment, the Earth, Sun and Sirius are aligned. Each month consists of 28 days (four seven-day weeks) which amounts to 364 days in a year. The day that remains, July 25th, was called by the Mayans the Day Out Of Time, the day between the years that connects them. It is still celebrated as a holiday of connections; the old is released and intentions for the New Year are set.

The Galactic Calendar is based on the Tzolkin, the sacred 260 day time count of the Maya, which is attuned to the natural cycles of the human body and the cycles of the Earth, Moon and Sun, including the cycle of the Earth as it relates to the constellation of Pleiades. The Maya knew that the Earth had three orbits; around its own axis every 24 hours, around the sun every year, and together with the Sun, a 26,000 year orbit around Alcyone, the central sun of the Pleiades, called the Precessional Cycle. The Tzolkin is a fractal of this cycle, a small part that contains all the characteristics of the entire Precessional Cycle. For the ancient Maya, their relationship with the Milky Way Galaxy of stars was part of their everyday reality. Uncannily, we too are familiar with the 260-day cycle, as this is the length of the average human pregnancy; we may have forgotten about this primal life-cycle, but we carry this information in our bodies and consciousness. The 260 days also has an agricultural correspondence to the time between the planting and harvesting of corn at certain elevations in the highlands, and a religious correspondence timing the shrine ceremonies in the hills around Mayan villages.  Its astronomical uses include the tracking of the phases of the moon, the prediction of eclipses (2 cycles of 260 days equal 520 days which equals 3 eclipses) as well as tracking Venus (its appearance as a morning star to its appearance as an evening star is 260 days). Together, the Haab and the Tzolkin create a framework of days like a loom on which the movements of Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune can be tracked; it is a sacred-secular solar-lunar synthesis.

The 260-day calendar and the 365-day calendar exist simultaneously like a wheel within a wheel, one with 260 teeth and one with 365 teeth. When the 260-wheel (the Tzolkin) has turned around once, the 365 wheel still has 105 teeth to go. After 52 years, the first day of the Tzolkin coincides again with the first day of the Annual Calendar. The Maya call a 52 year old person ‘an elder’ – they have completed the first cycle of their life, and by then have become wise in their culture.

The 260 days Galactic Calendar consists of 13 Tones, marked as a dot-bar notation, and 20 Solar Seals, each accorded a totem, giving the 13 x 20 combination of 260. Each combination is called a ‘kin’, the smallest possible part of the entire calendar structure that still carries all the characteristics of the creation. Every kin has its own unique energy and function. There are several cultural overlays to the Mayan Calendar and many cycles within cycles, the smallest being the cycle of four, determined by the weeks of the month and the four directions, a fractal of the year cycle called a Harmonic or a Time Cell. It begins in the East and each direction (week) has its own colour, quality and power: East is red with the power of initiation, North is white with the power of refinement, West is blue with the power of transformation and South is yellow with the power of ripening. Another overlay is the Galactic Activation ‘Portal’ days, 52 days where connection with the source, the heart of the Milky Way, is most active and intense; they all form a pattern in the schematic of the calendar called ‘The Loom of Maya’.  The ‘Core Days’ form the central spine of the Tzolkin, being 20 special days when energy is strongly focussed on the present moment.

The Mayans identified a 13-day week wave called a ‘Wavespell’. Practitioners learn to ‘surf’ this natural undulation by following 13 steps. In the beginning of a wave, it is pushed forward – it rises and gets bigger and bigger until it collapses under its own weight, breaks and dissolves back into the ocean. The first phase (1-4) establishes a basis of action - energy is being organised (as water is collected beneath the surface). At 5 the water rises and can been seen above the surface, and keeps rising (6-9) reaching its highest point at 10, and disperses from 10-12 – the water spreads out and the surface is smooth again at 13, a moment of silence. The corner points of the Wavespell are the ‘Towers’ where a change of direction in the process of creation takes place – it is a magical point, where the 4th dimension intervenes – the pulsar of time.  This process of 13 steps or ‘Tones’ is a natural wave that can be found everywhere in the macro and micro worlds. The Wavespell is a fractal: a series of 13 days, a year of 13 moons, and a series of 13 years. It begins and completes a process of creation – from Tone 13 you go to a new beginning at Tone 1, which may be a higher level of the same process of creation.

In the 13 Moon Calendar, each Moon has its own totem animal. The sequence of the Moons corresponds to the sequence of the 13 Mayan constellations. More can be discovered about the meaning and energy of each Moon phase by studying the characteristics of the animals – this cultural overlay, in which is embedded codes for living a good life, is reflected in many other ancient cultures. More can be discovered about the meaning and energies of the 13 Moons by studying the characteristics of each moon’s totem animal.

Everything in the universe, on some level, has the same rhythm of unfolding and is therefore related by a form of synchronistic correspondence. By living to this calendar, you become attuned to the very heart of the Milky Way, called the Hunab K’u. Once attuned to all these natural cycles, things begin to happen that you previously thought coincidences - that’s when you know you’re on the right frequency!

What is the 13 Moon Calendar?

The 13 Moon, 28-day calendar is a new standard of time for all people everywhere who desire a genuinely new world. If the calendar and time we follow is irregular, artificial and mechanized, so becomes our mind. As is our mind, so our world becomes, as is our world today: Irregular, artificial and mechanized. But if the calendar we follow is harmonic and in tune with natural cycles, so also will our mind become, and so we may return to a way of life more spiritual and in harmony with nature.
The 13 Moon calendar synchronizes solar and galactic cycles on July 26 correlating with the star Sirius.  Each of the 13 moons has a power, action, and quality which define an annual program to synchronize our consciousness with the galactic cycles.
As a perfect measure of cosmic time, this calendar is actually a synchronometer, an instrument for measuring synchronicity. Followed daily, it gives us a new lens in which to perceive events. In the New Time, synchronicity is the norm.
The 13 Moon 28-day synchronometer is a harmonic timespace matrix. It takes the moon 28 days to orbit the Earth; it makes this orbit 13 times each year. The standard of measure is the 28-day cycle, called a moon, because it is the median between the 29.5-day synodic cycle of the moon (new moon to new moon) and the 27.1-day sidereal cycle of the moon. Hence, it is a measure of Earth’s solar orbit using the 28-day lunar standard. This creates a perfect orbital measure of 13 moons of 28 days, totaling 364 days, or 52 perfect weeks of 7 days each. Because the 365th day is no day of the moon or week at all, it is known as the day out of time” - a day to celebrate peace through culture and time is art!
"The Thirteen Moon calendar is an evolutionary tool to assist humanity in the unprecedented act of uniting itself on one issue central to its complete well-being: time. The harmonic convergence of humanity on this one issue, combined with the inescapable order, perfection and simplicity of following the 13 Moon calendar will lift the species as a simultaneous whole into the galactic timing frequency of 13:20."

The World 13 Moon Calendar Peace Movement

More than ten years ago, approaching the end of the Cold War, an event of unprecedented unity took place on this planet, on August 16 and 17, 1987. This was the famous Harmonic Convergence World Peace Meditation. The man known as Jose Arguelles, Ph.D., and his wife Lloydine, organized the event worldwide. Already an accomplished educator, artist, and author of various books on history and aesthetics, Jose Arguelles' The Mayan Factor, became an international best seller. Together with his wife, based on their discovery of the Law of Time (1989-1998), the Arguelles have called for the most radical of all revolutions to save our planet and the future of humanity: A Revolution of Time.

Harmonic Convergence was the revelation and fulfillment of the prophecy of Quetzalcoatl, known as the Prophecy of Thirteen Heavens and Nine Hells, after which humanity would know a new time of peace unlike anything before. The Hell Cycle culminated on August 16, 1987, while on August 17, 1987 marked the beginning of the 25-Year closeout of the 5,125-Year Great Cycle Of History and the 26,000-Year evolutionary cycle, ending in 2012-2013.

Correcting for the irregular standard of the Gregorian Twelve-Month Calendar, the Thirteen Moon 28-Day Perpetual Calendar is an even standard of measure based on the female biological cycle. Advocating a global conversion to the calendar has been the Arguelles' mission for the past decade. As Coordinators of the World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement, they have circled the globe with their message of the return to natural time. To promote the cause of the Calendar Change, they have convened: the First Planetary Congress of Biospheric Rights (1996, Brasilia, Brazil); The First World Peace (Mexico City, 1996); the World Congress on the Law of Time (Tokyo, Japan, 1997); and, to be held this summer, the World Summit on Peace and Time (University for Peace, Costa Rica, 1999). Since both the Vatican (1961) and the United Nations (1956) have already proposed a need for calendar reform, the Arguelles' Calendar Change Peace Plan calls for planetary unification in the new time on July 26, 1999.

* Time is of the mind. Change your calendar, change your time. Change your time and change your mind.

* Time is the unifying field that holds things together. The Law of Time states that there is one timing frequency that unifies the whole galactic order from it's largest constituent to it's smallest. This frequency is the 13:20 ratio.

* The mathematics of the Mayan Calendar reveal the universal mathematics of the Fourth Dimension. The Maya mathematically knew the correct timing cycles of nature. The mathematics of the correct timing cycles of nature are not Mayan, but are universal laws of nature.

* The launching of the Industrial Age was a function of the 12:60 timing frequency (irregular twelve-month calendar and mechanical 60-minute hour). The Scientific Revolution began in 1618, when the belief that God was a clock maker and the universe, a giant clock. The scientist's mission was to figure out how the universe works and to create the Industrial Revolution. In this way, today's materialism was born.

* Peace is a spiritual problem, not a political one. If we change our time now, before the Millennium, we might make it, because we will soon enter a new path of spiritual and mental evolution in tune with the galactic universal cycles of nature, Heaven on Earth.

* The World 13 Moon Movement is a Revolution in Time. The only genuine revolution is a revolution in time. To know the nature of time is to know the time of nature. To know by the natural time that the time in which we live is incorrect is to know the correct time for action. The revolution of time is time itself.

* The Great Calendar change of 1999 is a turning point. It is truly in accord with time and the nature of time itself. The revolution in time is the mother of all revolutions. It is also the most thoroughly spiritual revolution in all of history, the revolution to end history. The revolution of time is already prepared in the great seasons of change which govern the order of life in the universe and on Earth. The World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement has paced itself according to the great seasonal change that is now upon us.

"Truth is Love. Tolerance is Justice. Peace is Forever."
